The Temple - Rich illustrations and content packed pages
The Temple is an amazing, bestselling guide that presents hundreds of facts about the Temple. The full-color, glossy pamphlet covers the Tabernacle in the wilderness to the Temple built by King Solomon, Zerubbabel, and Herod's Temple, the one Jesus knew so well. The Temple pamphlet has colorful illustrations of the Temple drawn to scale based on measurements from the Bible. Each of the Temple furnishings are explained in detail, as well as their functions, purposes, and the meanings they have for believers today.
12 panels, fits inside most Bibles, 8.5 x 5.5 inches, unfolds to 33 inches long

A beautiful cutaway illustration of the first temple, Solomon's Temple, shows what the Temple may have looked like inside and out. Teachers can show students the outer courtyards of the Temple and the area where Jesus praised the widow who gave sacrificially to the Lord, giving "the widow's mite." The Temple pamphlet explains each of the Temple's key features: the Ark of the Covenant, the Veil, the Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place (the Holy of Holies), to name a few. The Temple pamphlet includes:

  • A tour of the temple and its features
  • An historical time line and fascinating facts
  • A Q & A about the Temple
  • A beautiful illustration of Herod's Temple (sometimes called the third temple)
  • References to Jesus in the Temple
  • Biblical encounters that happened in God's Temple

The Temple pamphlet provides a numbered list indicating each of the key features of the Temple and explains their original purposes and what their uses mean to us today. For example: The Brazen Altar (Bronze Altar). Back THEN it was the place where the perfect animal was sacrificed for the sins of the people. NOW Jesus is the perfect sacrifice. Old and New Testament Scripture references are provided for each Temple feature:

  • Sacrifice / the Brazen Altar (Bronze Altar)
  • The Sea (Bronze Basin)
  • Brass Pillars (Bronze Pillars)
  • Holy Place
  • Golden Lampstand and Tables of Showbread
  • Golden Incense Altar
  • The Veil
  • Most Holy Place
  • Cherubim
  • Ark of the Covenant and Mercy Seat
  • Storerooms

An historical time line shows the years the Temples were built, destroyed, and rebuilt. The timeline covers:

  • The Tabernacle
  • Solomon's Temple
  • Zerubbabel's Temple
  • Herod's Temple

The Temple pamphlet provides fascinating details:

  • Learn who made the plans for the Temple
  • Who raided and destroyed the Temples
  • Whether the Temple will be restored
The Temple is an excellent overview on "God's dwelling place on earth".

Review by: Paul Dare - June 20, 2011
I love Old Testament types and foreshadows of Christ in Scripture. Charles Spurgeon said, when he preached, he would read his text and make a bee-line to Christ. Just as all roads in England lead to London, all biblical roads lead to Christ, he proclaimed.

The tabernacle, God’s mobile worship center in Israel, was later replaced by a more permanent structure, the temple. Built by David’s son King Solomon in 960BC, the temple was a structure unlike anything else seen in its day — Its beauty exceeding anything built before it. But it’s outward beauty was no match for its symbolism. The riches that it took to build such a structure filled with gold and silver was nothing compared to the riches of of the one who it pointed to; the one who would come and say, “destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up again!”

Rose Publishing has put out a great resource on the OT Temple. This 12-page fold out pamphlet is beautifully done with both rich illustrations and content packed pages. Rose does more than just give raw historical data (which it does do and does it quite well) but goes further in explaining the significance behind the Temple and all of it’s features, furniture and priestly attendants. Here are some notable sections that I personally found helpful:
  • Historical timeline from Tabernacle (1446 BC) to the last Temple (Herod’s in AD 64)
  • Jesus in the Temple
  • Fascinating facts about the Temple in Jesus’ Day
  • “Then” and “Now” compare and contrast of the Temple with the ultimate fulfillment of the Temple in the man Christ Jesus.
I have yet to meet a Rose Publishing resource that I haven’t liked and used (see my other reviews). These high-gloss pamphlets are especially enjoyed by my children who love the pictures and drawings to go with the written content. And they are very affordable both online and in your local Christian bookstore. I was provided a free copy of this pamphlet from Rose Publishing for a free, unbiased, honest review.
