10 Q&A on Seventh-day Adventism pamphlet
VIDEO: Author Colleen Tinker talks about Seventh-day Adventist beliefs. As a former Adventist who was brought up in an Adventist family, Colleen goes through a careful analysis of Adventist beliefs as compared to biblical Christianity. "There is no doctrine of the Christian faith that Adventism does not distort, including the nature of man, the nature of Christ, the nature of sin, and the truth about Christ's finished atonement."
Why do Seventh-day Adventists worship on Saturdays only? Who was their prophet, Ellen G. White, and what did she teach about Jesus (identified as Michael the Archangel), the Trinity (both God the Father and Jesus have tangible bodies), and salvation? What is the SDA Bible paraphrase, The Clear Word, and how does it alter the original Greek and Hebrew meanings to fit Mrs. White's unusual teachings? Why do Adventists consider Sunday worship "the mark of the beast?" What is the "investigative judgment," and how does it deny the biblical belief that Jesus paid fully for our sins at the cross? Christians need to be aware of traditional Adventist teachings.

Seventh-day Adventism is often represented as being part of the historical Christian Church. Determining exactly where it fits can be quite difficult and, unfortunately, many in today's culture do not have the willingness to enter into a lengthy investigation of the facts. The good news is, with the publication of 10 Questions and Answers on Seventh-day Adventism you can quickly find the answers.
This fourteen page pamphlet can be read in a matter of minutes. However, it offers a surprising amount of valuable information; including a side by side comparison of Adventism teachings with those of the Bible on such topics as: the Trinity, Sabbath worship, the Investigative Judgment, death, and hell. Just as important are the tips offered on reaching out to Adventists and, if you want to go deeper, a rather extensive listing of other resources.
If you have a friend or family member who is part of Seventh-day Adventism, you are considering such a Church, or just want to know what Adventism teaches, I highly recommend 10 Questions and Answers on Seventh-day Adventism. I believe this is a tremendous resource for engaging the culture in the discussion of biblical truth.

Rose Publishing's Response to Seventh-day Adventist Complaints about the pamphlet:
10 Questions & Answers about Seventh-day Adventism
First, be assured that the pamphlet is not the product of "hearsay" or careless or superficial research, nor was it intended to give personal offense to you or any other individual. We are not making a judgment as to whether any individual Adventist is saved or is truly a Christian; we are mainly contrasting the teachings of Seventh-day Adventism with historic Christian doctrines.
Second, we encourage Adventists to consult the nearly two dozen documented sources cited by the authors, as we have. (In preparing the pamphlet they referred exhaustively to current SDA publications, including the current edition of Seventh-day Adventists Believe and documents from The White Estate, besides numerous other official sources, including the official Seventh-day Adventist website, the church's Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, the republished Questions on Doctrine, works by Ellen White, and various others.) While you may personally disagree with the conclusions of the authors-who were active, lifelong Adventists well into adulthood-we can state with confidence that they have been careful not to misrepresent the Adventist church's current and historic views.
Third, we should note that the pamphlet's general editor (who worked closely with the authors), Paul Carden, served at the Christian Research Institute under Walter Martin for nearly a decade and has over 30 years' experience in researching and responding to cultic movements here and abroad. Also, one of our uncredited manuscript consultants has been researching primary Adventist sources for decades and maintains an enormous collection of the church's books and periodicals. Having done "due diligence," we are confident that all of the pamphlets citations accurately reflect the context of the sources from which they were drawn.
Fourth, regarding abortion, the authors reply:
While Adventism has "never officially endorsed abortion," it is openly pro-choice. The official Adventist statement on abortion may be found here: www.adventist.org/beliefs/guidelines/main-guide1.html
Here are some quotes from the official statement (emphasis added):
"God's ideal for human beings affirms the sanctity of human life, in God's image, and requires respect for prenatal life. However, decisions about life must be made in the context of a fallen world. Abortion is never an action of little moral consequence. Thus prenatal life must not be thoughtlessly destroyed. Abortion should be performed only for the most serious reasons."
"Women, at times however, may face exceptional circumstances that present serious moral or medical dilemmas, such as significant threats to the pregnant woman's life, serious jeopardy to her health, severe congenital defects carefully diagnosed in the fetus, and pregnancy resulting from rape or incest. The final decision whether to terminate the pregnancy or not should be made by the pregnant woman after appropriate consultation."
"Therefore, any attempts to coerce women either to remain pregnant or to terminate pregnancy should be rejected as infringements of personal freedom."
"Church institutions should be provided with guidelines for developing their own institutional policies in harmony with this statement. Persons having a religious or ethical objection to abortion should not be required to participate in the performance of abortions."
Finally, regarding Ellen G. White, the Adventist church's fundamental belief #18 states in part: "One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and was manifested in the ministry of Ellen. G. White. As the Lord's messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction." A "source" is a place of origin, and as the pamphlet demonstrates, having a prophet outside of Scripture who functions actively as a "continuing and authoritative source of truth" is fundamentally contrary to "Sola Scriptura," no matter how her role may be characterized.
The Adventist church's distinctive teachings on the "great controversy theme," its views of Jesus and the Trinity, its "investigative judgment" doctrine, worship on Sunday as the mark of the beast, and many other issues concern us deeply-as they do other Christians around the world.

Deceptive
The SDA Church uses many deceptive tactics to recruit members. "The Bible Story", "Great Controversy/Great Hope" books, "Amazing Facts TV Show w/ Pastor Doug Batchelor" all fail to disclose who these people really are. Amway operates the same way, they invite you to a meeting and then at the end of the hour they finally tell you who they are. Very sneaky! I don't like these tactics.

Seventh Day Adventists and their belief system.
I believe it is a Must Read for Christians and Adventists.
Everything in the pamphlet is well researched and true.
I am going to buy many copies and give them to
my Christian friends as well as Adventists that I know.
It is a wonderful tool in witnessing to an Adventist.
It is Jesus only that saves. NOT Jesus plus something else!

Q&A
Anyone (SDA or not) who says the information in this video or in the brochure is not accurate is either not being honest, or is just not well informed about what the SDA church really teaches.
Colleen does NOT have an "axe to grind" she, like many others who have left the SDA church are simply trying to get out the truth. Not out of spite or vengeance, but out of love for those who are still mired in the deception. There are many very sincere people in the SDA church. BUT 'sincerity does NOT sanctify error'. And the SDA denomination is FULL of error. There is NO way to be a SDA in good standing by using the Bible ONLY. The teachings of the denomination as given by "divine inspiration" of their prophetess Ellen White cannot stand up to the teachings of the Bible any more than the Jehovah's witness or Mormons and their "prophets".
You can either follow God through His word the Bible, and Jesus and have truth OR you can follow the teachings of a false "prophet" and believe the lies.

10 Questions and Answers On Seventh Day Adventists
I totally support PC Nix in his review. The Clear Word is a paraphrase as he states. It is not held as an authoritative Bible by Adventists. The KJV or NKJV has always been the authoritative standard. Other Bible versions are used as supplement. Tinker has long held a reputation as someone having an "axe to grind" and being very biased against the Adventist Church. (ref. her columns in PROCLAMATION magazine) I would hope and pray that Christians seeking religious truth would consider other opinions than the ones presented in this ad. Attend an Adventist Church and see for yourself, think for yourself, and decide for yourself. Compare all the verses of a particular topic in Scripture within its proper context against the doctrines of the Adventist Church. There is no lie to be found. Ask an Adventist why, and you will discover the Biblical foundations on which Adventists establish their doctrines. I am an Adventist, a former Baptist. Only lies in the 10 Q&A Adventism.

Review by: Craig Branch, Director, Apologics Resource Center - February 10, 2011
10 Questions and Answers on Seventh-day Adventism does an admirable job in detailing the important and significant heresies of the SDA church. It combines thoroughness and conciseness and provides both an excellent academic and personal redemptive response to those deceived in this cult.
